School Update
On Thursday the Council voted to remove St. Martin's School out of the
development plan. This just leaves the Hayesfield site for development.
It is unlikely that a large supermarket can be built on the site as
there is not enough land.
Liberal Democrat councillors Steve Hedges and Nigel Roberts expressed
delight at the result of full council
that the council was going to amend to the local plan, and save St.
Martin's School.
Cllr Nigel Roberts said" We are delighted that 1491 people have
been listened to, it was clear when St.
Martin's Gardens School was first put forward as a development site not
many people were aware of the
plans, if the local plan is to be taken seriously then it must be
supported by local people not just the councillors,
especially as £2 million has been spent on the school
recently."
Cllr Steve Hedges added " We would like to thank all of the residents
that wrote to the council. We have
consistently said that a traffic study and the upcoming retail study
are required before a decision is made, to
make this decision such as this without the right information is not
right."
After criticising the process, rather than being happy that 1491 people
had contacted the council with their
views, the Tories reluctantly supported the motion moved by the Liberal
Democrats, stating that they
supported as it was an election period. There will now be another 6
weeks of consultation, and after
that the plan can be ratified.
